It is now. Catch genre-ascending groove titans Ghost-Note playing at Ocean Beach's Winston's Beach Club on June 28th, bringing a night of truly good tunes and good times.
Led by Snarky Puppy’s multi-GRAMMY-winning duo of drummer-keyboardist Robert “Sput” Searight and percussionist Nate Werth, the group contains some of the biggest names in Jazz, as beyond Snarky Puppy, members of the band have collaborated with Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington, Terrance Martin, & other names outside of Jazz, such as Kendrick Lamar, Prince, Snoop Dogg & Erykah Badu.

Last month, Ghost Note released their first new LP in six years, the “infections, funk-filled” (Glide Magazine) Mustard n’Onions via Mack Avenue Music Group/Artistry Music. For a small taste of the album, check out the psychedelia-soul tinged “Grandma’s Curtains” featuring blues-rock god Eric Gales and “Bad Knees” co-written by the group’s visionary bass player MonoNeon. You can listen to the full album HERE, and read the bio HERE.
Along for the funky ride of Mustard n’Onions is a who’s who of groove-music greats. Most moving is the presence of late R&B/jazz heroes Bernard Wright (1963-2022) and Casey Benjamin (1978-2024), whose performances on the album would be some of their final recorded appearances. Other guests on the album include Snarky Puppy standouts Mark Lettieri and Jay Jennings, Karl Denson, pedal-steel luminary Travis Toy, electric-bass GOAT Marcus Miller and many more.
Mustard n’Onions presents a story of the ensemble solidifying and finding their identity. On the band’s freewheeling 2018 release, Swagism, the lineup was still developing a collective sound and now, the music on the new album reflects the firmed-up character of a unit whose “camaraderie and chemistry” have accrued over countless gigs. While Sput remains Ghost-Note’s primary writer and de facto musical director, the album is a collaborative effort from the entire band, as nearly every member has at least one writing credit.
